It's not always easy to find the right bra size for your doll. Disclaimer, if you've come to find out your own size, the calculator works too. You can rely on the brands' measurements, but for lingerie that fits, we strongly advise you to take your own measurements.
This article is aimed at men with little or no knowledge of the subject, so a little explanation is in order.
How do I calculate bra size?
You'll need to take two measurements: her under bust and bust measurements, which you can then transfer to the calculator below to automatically obtain the right size.
- Take a tape measure and hold your doll upright, bare-chested, against the wall, with a wedge at shoulder or buttock level to allow you to pass your hands behind her.
- Measure bust circumference
- Measure under bust circumference
- Enter this information in the calculator
How to measure bust and under bust circumference?
To measure the bust size, place the tape measure horizontally and flat against your beloved chest, at the point where the breasts meet. Be precise: it should pass under the armpits and over the shoulder blades.
To measure the under bust size, place the tape measure flat right below her breasts. Make sure you tighten it sufficiently, but not too much, for the most accurate measurement possible.
In the example pictured below, the bust measurement is 85 cm for a under bust measurement of 66 cm, giving us a difference of 19 cm and a D cup. The 85 cm bust gives us a bra size of 80.
The right bra is therefore an 80D.
A few tips for doll owners
As stated in this post about how to find the right clothes for your doll (and shoes, of course), the latter aren't too keen on bras. That said, some large breasts need them to keep in shape or gravity will eventually take its toll - realistic dolls, we say!
Doll breasts are often exaggerated, and you'll have a hard time finding suitable bras in stores. Remove the metal underwires, and adjustable bikinis may be a solution. For breasts that are completely out of the ordinary, a scarf can do the trick. Remember to choose a light-colored scarf to avoid the risk of color transfer.
The calculator can calculate a cup size from A to Z. Some rare dolls exceed this measurement, so you'll have to improvise. Sorry, we ran out of alphabets.
If you're a fan of fine lingerie, you may want to consider sewing training to shorten the back of the bra. This is necessary so that the clasps can hook in. There's nothing complicated about it, even if it does require a little more commitment.
Pro tips for choosing your doll (and her breasts)
The size of a cup in no way expresses volume in the hand. Bear in mind that a 155 cm E-cup doll will not have the same breast size as a 175 cm E-cup model. The latter will be much larger, since the cup only represents the difference between the bust and under bust size.. Similarly, the weight of an E cup on a 175 cm model will be greater than on a 155 cm model.
